Mashin Math/Science Scholarships
Educators Virginia and Jack Mashin left a gift of $688,000 in their estate and asked that the principal be invested and income used to issue perpetual scholarships.

Two Virginia Mashin Mathematics Scholarships and two Jack and Virginia Mashin Scholarships will be awarded annually. SDEF will provide counseling and mentoring for all students selected. Scholarship recipients must attend a college or university in San Diego County.

Virginia served as a Mathematics Administrator for San Diego City Schools and was an instructor in Advanced Mathematics at Kearny High School. After retirement, she tutored students in mathematics. She received numerous awards from the Greater San Diego Mathematics Council. Her husband, Jack was a coach for 60 years and is a member of the California Coaches Hall of Fame.

The Mashins did not have children and lived a frugal life so they could leave a legacy for San Diego students.
