NEW SCHOLARS INTRODUCED

New Scholars were introduced at the Day of the Teacher Celebration.
During 2010-2011 Academic Year 43 Scholars will be supported in the Teacher
Program and 12 in the Virginia and Jack Mashin Mathematics/Science Program.
Students were selected from Patrick Henry, Mission Bay, Morse, Hoover, Serra and Crawford high schools.

FORMER SCHOLAR AWARDED SITE HONOR!

Maria Kammerzell was selected as Site Teacher of the Year for
Carson Elementary School. Maria was awarded a Future Educator
Scholarship in 2000 when she graduated in the top 2% of her class
at Morse High School.

Scholars attending nine colleges gathered to get acquainted, make appointments with their counselor, hear words of inspiration from those who are nearing their credential. Arranged by Mary Castleberry at Chevys Fresh Mex, Mission Valley, we thank them for their generous hospitality.

Judy Lewis Logue (right) Director of Financial Aid at the University of San Diego chaired Dollars for Scholars held this year at USD. She invited SDEF to distribute information on the scholarship programs. Congratulations Yvonne Larsen
Yvonne Larsen, SDEF's first Director Emeritus, has been named "Mrs. San Diego" by San Diego civic leaders. Yvonne was cited for her many leadership roles in our community especially the education community. She served as president of the San Diego Unified School District board and the California State Board of Education. She was vice chair of the National Commission on Excellence in Education. She has been chair of the Boards of the Zoological Society of San Diego, Junior League and LEAD San Diego, presided over Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary and Sharp Healthcare Foundation and active in Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS). The award has been given for the past 50 years and only three women have received the "Mrs. San Diego".
